A half hour drive on the motorway from Trecastagni is Taormina nicknamed “ The Pearl of the Ionio”. It’s situated on Mount Tauro from which it takes its name. Its position is unparalleled for its beauty and the treasures that may be found there. First of all the Amphitheatre located in a high position from which one may enjoy an incomparable view of Mt. Etna down to the intense blue colour of the sea. Like all the Sicilian cities it has suffered various dominations. Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Norman, and so on. Under the various dominations it has known periods of development alternating with dark and static periods.

Today, and for the last century it is an important tourist pole that has been visited by personalities from the world of art, literature and variety. On the cable car in a few minutes you can descend to the coast where numerous high-class hotels and also small reasonable boarding houses are located. Mother Nature has donated l’Isola Bella a promontory on which a villa was built many decades ago and considering its location it must be considered unique. This is such a stupendous spectacle that you can only be enraptured by it. Whatever description is used and any photograph are poor means that cannot even remotely give a true idea of Taormina.
